Because implicit biases are difficult to identify, psychologists at Harvard, the University of Virginia, and the University of Washington collaboratively researched and developed a series of assessments called Implicit Association Tests, which they’ve tested for over twenty years. They measure participants’ reaction time to pairs of images and associated words, which can indicate positive or negative biases or attitudes.

I invite you to take at least one or more of these free online assessments that measure implicit associations around race, gender, sexual orientation, and other social identities (see Additional Resources).
